My Fiction

In Mike Five Eight, Lieutenant “Rusty” Naille returns to Vietnam to complete his injury-interrupted combat tour as a Forward Air Controller. Assigned to a super-secret Special Operations base in the Central Highlands, he “volunteers” to fly covert missions over Cambodia. If he is discovered, his existence will be denied.  If he is shot down, he will not be rescued. His Cessna O-2 plane is unmarked, he carries no identification, and his right-seater is a North Vietnamese Army officer.

Mike 58 is one of the best books on Vietnam I’ve ever read...captures the sights sounds and emotions in a way that lets the reader...be there.

Mike Five Eight is my second novel.  It is the second part of the Rusty Naille series.  Based on my own combat tour in Vietnam, this fictional adventure gives the reader a look at one of the most closely-guarded covert operations to take place during the Vietnam War: intelligence-gathering along the infamous Ho Chi Minh Trail in Cambodia.  Released in November, 2006; 430 pages.

Incredible writing...melodic and lyrical

Lieutenant “Rusty” Naille (callsign Baggy Zero Four) is a new US Air Force pilot, assigned as a Forward Air Controller (FAC) in Vietnam. From the moment of his landing at Cam Rahn Air Base, Rusty confronts hazards from nature, the enemy and his fellow officers.  Assigned to a raw scrape in the earth known as LZ Emerald, he soon is dropped right into the thick of extreme danger – and extreme futility. Dodging bullets for months, he and his bunkmates must overcome monsoons, mortar attacks and their Army host’s infamous martinis. Finally assigned to a highly covert Special Operations mission, Rusty is soon drawn into a dilemma that will end his career in disgrace and prison…or kill him.

Baggy Zero Four is my first novel.  It was written as my entry in the 2005 National Novel Writing Month contest, in which it was a winner.  It is a fast-paced, high-energy read of fiction, but is based on my first few months in Vietnam as a FAC. Released December, 2005; 175 pages.
